Cost: $40 per person, due at registration

Learn how to make a mask that will fit your face specifically. Through a mold and casting process you will have a custom fit, and you pick the design. Masks will be made from Papier Mache and painted and/or decorated to fit your costume.

Call or stop in by Wednesday, October 8th to register. Class size will be limited to first 12 registrants, though if the minimum of 10 is not obtained, the workshop will be called off.

Instructor: Dr. Mary McNaughton, author of "The Little Book of Drawing"
Cost: $45

Dr. Mary McNaughton will give a short presentation based on visuals from “The Little Book of Drawing; a Friendly Approach.” Critiques meant as encouragement are given periodically throughout the sessions to help inform and enlighten the students. The classes can be tailored to fit various needs of each group in areas they specifically want to work on.

In this session, students will work at visiting for the first time or revisiting the process of blind contour through paired exercises with classmates. Since contour is the key to understanding drawing, it is crucial to take time with this exercise and determine the desired qualities to be achieved. Once contour is mastered, we will begin with simple gradation exercises in both pencil and charcoal and also in ink. The concepts of value and how the contour line describes that value are examined.

Surfaces you paint on and surfaces you finish with all add to the unique quality of your artwork. You will work on both absorbent surfaces that soften the quality of the paint application as well as textural surfaces that really pop out at you.

Become familiar with a variety of acrylic materials that will be available for you to use as you push your paintings to a new level as you build materials layer upon layer. Feel the difference between working with the Golden heavy body (tube) paints and the new OPEN acrylics which offer you a much longer open time for working with the paint.

Bring to class: favorite brushes, rags, a water container, paper palettes and a bag lunch.
